Students Can Be Their Best with I-BEST

Valley residents can take advantage of a unique opportunity offered by Rio Salado College at the West Valley Career Center, located at 95th Avenue and McDowell Road. Students attend class Monday through Friday for three hours a day and can choose from afternoon or evening time slots. This opportunity is of no cost to students and is available to residents that do not have a high school diploma. Tuition, fees and book costs will be covered through financial aid, WIA job training and scholarships.

The Arizona I-BEST Program integrates instruction for a GED diploma with 12.5 credits of Construction: Electrical training. Students enrolled in this program will learn skills needed to work in the construction trades that focus on basic electrical fundamentals as well as electrical equipment, blueprints, codes and safety. Students successfully completing the program will earn a Workforce Development: Certificate of Completion: Electrical, Level I from Rio Salado College, plus certificates from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) in Core, Introductory Craft Skills and Electrical Level I. Students also will prepare for and successfully complete the tests for a GED diploma.

The program will provide hands-on application of learned skills at work sites. Students will also attend job readiness workshops and receive job search assistance upon completion of curricula.

The program runs for six months, with students attending class Monday through Friday from either 1-4 p.m. or 5-8 p.m. Students do have the potential to complete the program faster and begin their employment search before the end of the six-month training.

IBEST orientation is set for Jan. 27 at 4 p.m., and will be held at the West Valley Career Center, 1840 N. 95th Ave. Suite 160, Phoenix. Please call (480) 384-9827 to register for the orientation.
