McDowell was nominated by student Hanna Willis who said she
would not have been able to pass the required standardized math tests if it
weren’t for McDowell’s dedication and willingness to go the extra mile.
“I have been in special education since the third grade and
never thought I would be able to pass the AIMS,” Willis said. “Mr. McDowell
took the time to tutor me whenever I had extra time. He allowed me to come in
before or after class. He also let me tutor during his prep time.”
Excellence in Education is a partnership between Rio Salado College and KEZ 99.9 FM, which recognizes Valley teachers. Students and parents of students are encouraged to nominate K-12 teachers who are excellent at their profession and have gone above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in their community.
