Taking the math placement test can be stressful for students, especially when they do not know what to expect. Recent changes to District-wide placement scores have made it more challenging to place into college level courses. As a result, Rio Salado’s math department has created three practice assessments to help students better prepare for the placement test. The practice assessments cover each level of the Accuplacer: Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, and College Algebra.
The assessments are particularly relevant to dual enrollment students who want to take Precalculus (MAT187), but are available to all students. Students can take the practice assessments as many times as desired, and each new version will contain new problems. They are intended for review only and hopefully will lead to better placement test scores and a more genuine assessment of student knowledge and ability. The assessments are now online and available at http://www.riosalado.edu/testing/placement/Pages/Math-Practice-Placement.aspx.
