Be A Leader Scholarship Opportunity

Are you interested in being a positive mentor for middle school students in your community?

The Be A Leader Foundation scholarship is designed for Rio Salado students who want to help local youth prepare for and consider a college education.

Students are asked to commit to nine months of mentorship, and are required to volunteer for five hours one Saturday per month. Selected students will be awarded a minimum of $500 for the 2015-16 academic year.

Am I eligible?
  • Any student may apply who has a GPA of 2.0 or higher and plans to take at least one Rio Salado course during both the fall and spring 2015-16 terms. Your GPA will be calculated for all courses taken with the Maricopa Community Colleges. If you have not taken any Maricopa courses, your GPA will be calculated based on your previous college grades or your high school grades.
  • Students who are native Spanish speakers or have some fluency with the Spanish language are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.
  • You must have reliable transportation.
  • You must make the nine-month commitment. Most programs are from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on one Saturday per month beginning in August, 2015.
