Rio Salado's Faculty Chair for Addictions and Substance Use Disorders Kirk Bowden was awarded The International Association of Addictions and Offender Counselors’ (IAAOC) Outstanding Addictions/Offender Educator Excellence Award for 2019.

The award acknowledges a professional counselor educator who has demonstrated outstanding teaching and commitment in addictions/offender education.

Bowden has been a longtime advocate for continuing education and standardized training for addictions counselors and educators.

“Our role as counselors and educators is more important than ever before,” said Bowden. "Continuing education for counseling professionals is essential as our country grapples with this current opioid epidemic-- and is looking to our addictions and counseling profession for answers on how to resolve this national crisis.”
