Take part in an engaging Martin Luther King Jr. holiday celebration with Rio Salado College, Jan. 23, 3-4:30 p.m. at the Tempe headquarters.

Enjoy some or all these activities:

  • Opening remarks by employees about the meaning of Civil Rights.
  • Discussion with Faculty Chair for Psychology, Philosophy, and Religious Studies and Faculty Senate President Wanda Tucker and her special guest Pam Tucker, who will talk about their journey discovering how their families’ histories are intertwined, beginning with the first African slaves brought to the United States in 1619.
  • MLK tribute march along the Rio Way path ending at the amphitheater for a closing ceremony.

Last year’s inaugural event was poignant and memorable. We hope you will take part in this year’s event to help us create a new memorable experience.

Snapshot from USA Today feature, image of Wanda and Pam at a cemetery with other Tucker family in view. Headline: Pam's family enslaved black people. Wanda believes her ancestor was one of them. They met and are confronting a painful history.
