Rio Salado's academic advisement, admissions and records, financial aid staff and other student services teams will be present to provide information about getting started, how to choose a major, how to secure financial aid and scholarships, how to succeed in college and more!

Staff from Glendale and Estrella Mountain community colleges will also be present to talk about the in-person options and services available to you on their campuses! It's a great way to learn what the Maricopa Community Colleges can do for you-- at one convenient location!

We will also have representatives from Fry's Food Stores available to talk to students about employment opportunities with the company and the benefits of Rio Salado’s online Retail Management Certificate program. Fry’s is hiring and will pay for students to earn their certificate through Rio!

Radio Intern Work Study at Sun Sounds

Here's a great work study opportunity for students who have a passion for radio and public service!

Sun Sounds of Arizona, a radio and information service is looking for a Program Assistant / Radio Intern for its Rio Salado Tempe location.

Job Summary:
Works with Suns Sounds of Arizona radio station to create broadcast programming for print disabled listeners throughout Arizona.

Duties:
Assists producers with radio programs; acquires content for broadcast; assists in the creation of content for social media posts; schedules talent for radio programs; maintains a contact list for radio services.


Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office 2010 including Excel, a Windows 7 operating system and various Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome; excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms is a plus.

Apply for Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy ‪‎Scholarship!‬

The Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholarship‬ application deadline is March 1, 2016!

This scholarship program covers full tuition, fees and books, while providing each student with an academic advisor and mentor. It also includes a $2,750 annual living allowance.

The scholarship is available to all Maricopa Community Colleges students who meet one of these criteria:
● Adults 25 years or older with dependents
● College-age youth and adults living with physical disabilities
● Incoming freshmen ages 18-25, raised through the child welfare system and have no form of financial support

Special Saturday Hours for Back-to-School Rush!

The Rio Salado Tempe headquarters will be open Saturday, Jan. 16 and 23, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to accommodate the increased demands of the back-to-school rush! 

The following student services will be available:

The Testing Center, Knowledge Commons and Technology Support Helpdesk will have normal Saturday hours.

Here are a few tips to help you avoid wait times:
  • Take advantage of self-serve options available through financial aid and my.maricopa.edu.
  • Avoid the lunchtime rush between 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and try to call before 10 a.m. You can always leave a message requesting a callback.
  • Avoid calling or coming in on Mondays and consider a mid-week visit. 
  • Come prepared before you call or come in to see an advisor by reviewing your program at www.riosalado.edu/programs.

Maricopa County StandDown for Vets Jan. 28-29

AZ Veterans StandDown Alliance logo: Coordinated by the AZ Coaltion to End Homelessness.
The 2016 Maricopa County StandDown for veterans will take place January 28-29. 

While the primary goal is to help homeless veterans access resources, including housing, its secondary goal is to bring community and service providers together in a collaborative format to build relationships throughout the year to benefit homeless and at risk veterans.

We also encourage our community to volunteer time and resources to help improve the lives of veterans who are in need of these services.

The Arizona StandDown is an alliance of community-based organizations
that come together to provide annual, one to three day events that bring together the State's homeless and at-risk military veterans, connecting them with services ranging from: VA HealthCare, Mental Health Services, Clothing, Meals, Emergency Shelter, Transitional and Permanent Housing, ID/ Drivers License's, Court Services and Legal Aidea, Showers and Haircuts and myriad other services and resources. The February 2015 Maricopa County StandDown was the largest, singular outreach event for homeless veterans in the country.

Federal Work Study Orientation Jan 7-11!


Join Rio Salado's Financial Aid team to learn about Federal Work Study (FWS) opportunities and benefits, January 7, 8 and 11 at the Tempe headquarters.

Staff will be available to provide insights about current openings, the application process and some of the financial benefits that are available to students who choose to take on a FWS position.

Look for their information booth near the front lobby on the first floor of the Tower at Rio, Jan. 7, 8 and 11, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2- 4 p.m.

The Maricopa Student Center will be down for planned maintenance Wednesday, December 30, 6-11 a.m.

The following online student services will be unavailable during this time: Maricopa Enterprise ID account creation, enrollment for classes, grade reports, transcripts, financial aid information, and the student message center. If you need to access any of these services, you are encouraged to do so before December 30.
