Sign up for a no-cost Veterans Community Learning Hub featuring high-impact business writing at the East Valley Veterans Education Center (EVVEC).

Veterans Community Learning Hubs give you the opportunity to build your skills through a combination of online learning and in-person sessions.

Participants will be required to complete a course module online every week, and then attend an in-person session at the EVVEC to discuss the material with other students-- and to hear from experts in the field.

Transitioning service-members, veterans, and their spouses will receive a course certificate co-issued by Coursera and the University of California Irvine upon successful completion of the course.

Create a semester calendar
Keep a record of when your exams, quizzes, papers, and finals are due.

Plan for study time
1 hour of class time = 2 hours of study time.

Prioritize your time
Don't overextend yourself, it's OK to say no sometimes.

Stay informed
Ask questions and check for student news by way of your student center at my.maricopa.edu, your student email and our social media channels.

Need help?
Call on Rio Salado's Counseling & Career Services team. A counselor can assist you with personal and educational goals. When should you call? When you need help with issues such as a lack of motivation, relationship issues, study skills, test anxiety, time management, stress, goal setting, and access to community resources such as alcohol and drug abuse prevention resources.

We appreciate the awesome response to join Rio Salado's new Student ‪Veterans‬ Club and we look forward to seeing new members at the first official meeting/luncheon, Feb. 3 at the East Valley Veterans Education Center (EVVEC) in Tempe.

This luncheon will give you a chance to meet fellow veterans and veteran support staff, tour the EVVEC and learn about its resources, discuss future club activities and learn about Student Veterans of America.

As a Rio Salado student, you have access to the audiobook collections available at all 10 Maricopa Community College  libraries-- and you can pick up your selections at a location that's convenient for you!

Please note that these are physical audiobooks (CDs), not digital files.

How to Locate and Request Audiobook CDs

1. Go to the Rio Salado Library. Select “Books & DVDs.”

2. Click “Advanced Search.”

3. If you are looking for a specific audiobook, type in the title. If you are looking for an audiobook on a specific subject (success, parenting, business, etc.), type in the subject. Use the pull-down menu for Format Type to select “Audio disc.” Then click on “Advanced Search.”

4. When you find an audiobook that interests you, select “Place Hold.”

5. Enter your MEID and password

6. Select the library closest to you for pick-up! Then click “Place Hold.”

Apply for Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy ‪‎Scholarship!‬

The Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholarship‬ application deadline is March 1, 2016!

This scholarship program covers full tuition, fees and books, while providing each student with an academic advisor and mentor. It also includes a $2,750 annual living allowance.

The scholarship is available to all Maricopa Community Colleges students who meet one of these criteria:
● Adults 25 years or older with dependents
● College-age youth and adults living with physical disabilities
● Incoming freshmen ages 18-25, raised through the child welfare system and have no form of financial support

Seed Saving for Beginners

What are the easiest seeds to save? What is the difference between hybrid and open pollinated seeds? Learn the fundamentals of saving your own seeds with examples in the Garden @ Rio in Tempe. A hat and/or sunscreen is recommended.

Proper kitchen attire is required: closed-toe shoes, long pants, long or short-sleeved shirt, with hair restrained.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Closure Jan. 18

Rio Salado College and the Maricopa Community Colleges will be closed Monday, Jan. 18 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

We hope you'll take pause during this national holiday to reflect on Dr. King's contributions to the Civil Rights Movement-- and how you can serve as a steward of this cause.

Special Saturday Hours for Back-to-School Rush!

The Rio Salado Tempe headquarters will be open Saturday, Jan. 16 and 23, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to accommodate the increased demands of the back-to-school rush!

  • Take advantage of self-serve options available through financial aid and my.maricopa.edu.
  • Avoid the lunchtime rush between 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and try to call before 10 a.m. You can always leave a message requesting a callback.
  • Avoid calling or coming in on Mondays and consider a mid-week visit. 
  • Come prepared before you call or come in to see an advisor by reviewing your program at www.riosalado.edu/programs.
